Maintaining the Beauty of Arrowhead
Lake Arrowhead ALA was formed for the purpose of acquiring Lake Arrowhead from Boise-Cascade Home and Land Corporations (BCH&L) on behalf of all owners of Lake Arrowhead property within the boundaries of Arrowhead Woods. The original dam at Lake Arrowhead had been deemed unsafe and BCH&L were instructed to either construct a new dam or lower the level of the lake by 70 feet. The residents of Lake Arrowhead did not want the lake level lowered as this would have a devastating effect on the Lake Arrowhead real estate. BCH&L agreed to sell to the Lake Association for $500,000 over 10 years on condition they promote the passage of a public bone issue to fund the construction of the new dam. The bond issue was passed by a 91% majority and the new dam known as the Audrey McKay Dam which also forms the Papoose Lake was completed in 1977. The purchase of Lake Arrowhead by Arrowhead’s Lake Association included everything they own and operate today and BCH&L also gave them $70,000 in start up capital along with a deduction of $50,000 if the debt was sooner. The acquisition of the sale of Lake Arrowhead was completed in June 1976 for a total of $380,000. In 1976 BCH&L also sold the Arrowhead Utility Company, a private water company and Lake Arrowhead Community Services District (LACSD) was formed to purchase this.
